The Lithuanian Competition Council has officially approved the acquisition of a 45% stake in UAB Genys Brewing by LcX Opportunity Fund. The decision formalises a transaction that began in January 2025 and confirms that the deal will not create or strengthen a dominant market position in the relevant markets.

Genys Brewing, founded in 2016 and based in Kaunas, is an independent craft brewery that has built a reputation for combining modern brewing technology with traditional techniques. The investment supports the company’s broader ambition: to become the largest independent, Lithuanian-owned beverage producer in the country, with a focus on craft beer and non-alcoholic craft beverages.

“We aim to invest in leading players, even when their markets are niche,” said Šarunas Šiugžda, Managing Partner of LitCapital. “Our strategy is to grow through acquisitions. We see opportunities to consolidate the market further and establish a clear, independent leader in craft beer and non-alcoholic beverages — one that isn’t owned by a major corporation. The non-alcoholic beverage segment in particular looks highly promising; Genys already derives more than 20%, heading toward 30%, of its portfolio from these products.”

The deal builds on Genys Brewing’s earlier acquisition of AB Kauno Alus, completed in January 2025 following financing from LitCapital. Genys Brewing now owns 100% of Kauno Alus shares, while the brewery’s former real estate has been separated into a distinct holding structure. The two breweries continue to operate independently — Genys Brewing focused on craft beer, Kauno Alus on traditional brewing — though part of production will temporarily run out of Genys Brewing’s facility in Žemieji Šančiai while Kauno Alus relocates from its current site.

Looking ahead, LitCapital pointed to further acquisitions, product development, and export as the company’s key growth levers, with the fund targeting meaningful results within a three-to-four-year horizon.
